This was my pick for our The Book Was Better Club this month. I have been seeing previews for the movie for months now & it looks so good! Needless to say the book was....not so good...it was weird & hard to follow. I think this will be one where the movie is better than the book. I will be posting a meeting update after we meet Thursday then see the movie on Saturday.

Margaret Murry is awoken one night during a storm. She comes down stairs to find her smaller brother Charles Wallace & her mother in the kitchen. Soon they are joined by a strange visitor named Mrs. Whatsit. Mrs. Whatsit is there to help them. Meg's father has been missing for quite some time now & Mrs. Whatsit & her 2 friends named Mrs. Which & Mrs. Who know where he is & how to get him back home. Meg, Charles Wallace, & Meg's friend Calvin embark on a journey through time & space. They use a method of transport called a tesseract, it's the fastest way to move across time...sort of like a wrinkle. But in order to get her father back Meg must conquer her fears & defeat the darkness. Can she do it before it's too late?

Likes: There is a lot of imagination in this book

Short & faced paced

I'm mostly excited for the movie, I'm thinking it will be better than the book

Dislikes: This book is very difficult to follow. There is a lot of information crammed into one short book. The characters don't really make sense. They're traveling around in the universe, but clearly not ours. It's like Alice took a wrong turn into the world of sci-fi & got stuck there. Charles Wallace is supposed to be a toddler but talks & acts like a grown man, one of the women only studders, & the other speaks in different languages & poems. Everyone thinks the kids are morons & they tell them that to their faces like its normal. The dad is supposed to be the smart scientist but he's the one who got kidnapped. Then somehow God is thrown into all of that mess. It is just weird overall  doesn't make any sense as a book! I'm really holding out for the movie.
