My mother read this book then recommended it to me. We trade books back & forth since we both like to read so much. She picked it up at a thrift store on a road trip. I started reading it then since I was going on a trip I decided to find it on audio. I recently added Audible Escape to my Audible subscription to try it out. Let me tell you...there is so much stuff that I'd like to listen to on there! You pay $7 a month in addition to the regular Audible price that is $15 I think, plus tax. I'm not sure if you can just get that & not have a regular subscription, I'll include a link to the website so you guys can check it out for yourselves if you want. BTW this is not sponsored...although that would be really cool, wouldn't it!? Audible Escape

I didn't know this was a brand new book out this year until I looked to write it on here, that's pretty cool. I don't usually get to read new books a lot cause my TBR list is so freaking long. Plus I like to give the patrons at my library a chance to read stuff before I take it out. Every once in a while I will buy a brand new book but I mostly buy second hand or ebooks. My mom said that this book reminded her of Sophie Kinsella & Elin Hilderbrand books, 2 authors that we both LOVE! I think it's on the same lines as those being a rom com kinda story. Two of the reviews on the book actually say they think the story/writing is Austen-like...as in Jane Austen. I'm about to admit some horrible book truth to you all...I have never read a Jane Austen book...so I don't know if this comparison is worthy or not. I think being compared to an author that well known is a big deal so kudos to Elinor Lipman. The audio reader for the book is really really slow, so I sped up the audio to 1.45 times & it was doable. I seem to do that with all my books. It's not just the fact that I could read the book myself faster than they are but it's the way their voices sound, just too slow overall, needless to say the speed function & sleep timer on my audio apps are my BFF's. I wouldn't get the audio just because, I didn't love the reader, I got it because I wanted to read the book on my trip.

Overall the story is kinda complicated but that makes it interesting. It's unlike any plot I've ever read before. The characters are also unbelievable. The 2 main characters are Daphne Maritch & Geneva Wisenkorn. Daphne's mother has died in the last year & she entrusted her with an old high school year book that was dedicated to her mother from the class that year because her mother was a teacher & yearbook advisor. My main concern/problem with Daphne is that she is really funny but...she's also kinda mean spirited as a person. She does something that she thinks means nothing then it turns into his whole thing. In the end I think she is happy & finds peace so to speak but the whole journey to get there is just insane. Then our other main character Geneva is really weird...like WEIRD! She's a documentarian (is that even a word LOL) & she finds the yearbook while going through the trash. Then she thinks it's suddenly hers, like finders keepers. Obviously from the very beginning Daphne & Geneva don't get along which makes the story entertaining. Geneva is also one of those people who is strangely private about herself but wants to know everything about you like it's her business. She also says just about anything that she thinks, it comes from her head & straight out of her mouth, a lot of time it's rude but absolutely hilarious.

Overall if you are looking for a funny, fast paced, unique story with interesting characters you will enjoy this book as I did!

This is book # 18 in the Hannah Swensen series. The next book is Hannah's big day! I'm pretty sure I can catch up with this series by the end of the year.

I didn't suspect who the killer was at all until right when it happened. I think it's a little bit funny Hannah always ends up alone in the same room with the killer & she never knows it until it's too late.

Some exciting stuff happens in this book, the story is really moving along. Hannah's mother, Delores, finally marries her boyfriend Doc Knight. They have a crazy wedding weekend in Vegas & then go on an Alaskan cruise. Hannah reconnects with Ross, her friend from college who made an appearance about 6 books ago. They decide they love each other & he's up for a job in Lake Eden at the local news station. It would seem that Hannah also finally decides who she is gonna marry. All 3 men including Mike & Norman propose to her, some for the 2nd time, in this book & she makes her decision after that. I have to say I'm not sure how I feel about it. I think this whole flirtation with Ross is a bit far fetched to say the least. I've always been Team Norman personally. I hope she's happy with her choice...we'll see what happens in the next story. As usually Moishe is back at his hilarious antics & always adds some entertainment to the story. It would seem that technology is advancing in the story as well. People have started to get "smart phones" now & Hannah has figured out how to text. Our story ends on a good note that is gonna keep me reading, besides the wedding LOL.

The recipe I'm gonna include this time sounds really good & I would have never thought of it! I'm tempted to try to make them for my new diet, I'll let you know if I do.

August 2019 Wrap-Up

This month I read 4 books & I also did a reread right at the end of July so I'm not sure which month I actually counted it on LOL I think I did ok over all, hoping to read more in September..we'll see...

Everless & Evermore by Sara Holland
https://www.goodreads.com/series/210214-everless
 My review is here.
I also have a review of Everless from August of 2018...I think that was when I originally read it. Honestly I don't think I did it justice the first time because once I read it again it was SOOOO GOOOODDDDD. The second one was kinda meh, didn't like it as much.

I don't have a review of this book. I don;t usually do review of these types of books. You either like this genre or you don't. This one in particular & I'm sure the whole series is going to be fantastic, LOVE LOVE LOVE!

My review is here.

My review is here.
This was our Cook the Books pick for August. I'm gonna continue with this series, it's new so there is only this book & one other.

September 2019 TBR

This month I'm going on 2 trips, one will be short & one will be a little longer so I'm hoping to get some real reading time in. I'm hoping to read some more audiobooks during my driving time.  Since I've also already finished one of these books, I'm about halfway into another, & another one I have to read by next Monday I think I can do it!

Blackberry Pie Murder by Joanne Fluke
This book I got on audio as I do with all of the ones in this series & I finished it on my first trip of the month. YAY! One book already done LOL
My review is here.

Double Fudge Brownie Murder by Joanne Fluke
Since I finished the above book on the first leg of my trip I started this one on the way home & I'm a little less than half way in. I'm hoping to finish it this week.

Wedding Cake Murder by Joanne Fluke
This book will be my next on audio after the above book is finished. Then I'm gonna take a little break & get to some of these others.

Plantation Shudders by Ellen Byron
This is our Cook the Books book club pick for this month.

Fever by Maya Banks
I read book #1 in this series in like 2 sittings this last month. I don't do "reviews" on these for obvious reasons...you either like these kinds of books or you don't & an entire review is not necessary but I will say I LOVED the first one, it's a very intense series so be warned.

I Ain't Doin' It by Heather Land
I LOVE her Facebook videos! I'm so happy we got this at my library!

Good Riddance by Elinor Lipman
I was given this book a few months ago & I want to finally read it. I've had it on my TBR list like 3 times. I'm determined to finally get to it this month!

The Mona Lisa Key by Liesl Shurtliff
I have to read this book by next Monday LOL it's about 350ish pages so I think I can do it if I focus. I requested it on ILL, I've read several of her other books & really enjoyed them. I was online looking at new JUV books & this series came up as being recommended if you like...etc series I've also read before so I figured I'd give it a try but no one in my system had it so ILL it was.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is book # 17 in the Hannah Swensen series. I'm only 1 more book away from the wedding & 7 books away from being caught up with this series. I think it's going to be very strange when I'm all caught up & I just read them along with everyone else!
In this audio book for some reason they went back to reading the recipes when they appear in the book instead of having them on their own track at the end. I was a little disappointed in that. I already started the next book & it looks like the returning pattern is continued. I'm not sure, maybe people like hearing the recipes???
This book was a little crazy! Then from what I've heard of the next one so far it is going to be as well so buckle up! In this book instead of finding a dead body Hannah creates one, I guess that's the best way to describe what happens. It's a total freak accident but Hannah could be in serious trouble none the less. This book also featured some interesting characters we have never seen before including some hookers & a few pimps. Exciting stuff!
This is really the first time too that I would say the story really connects with the next book. I like reading books in order, it bothers me to read them out of order, I don't think I've ever done it on purpose. But even though these are a "series" I think these next 2 stories really correlate together so if you've never read these books, don't start with this one! I'm also starting to piece together how exactly Norman & Mike could be out of the picture & I'm not sure if I like what's happening...we'll see...
This time I included a recipe that isn't a dessert...it's not even food...but it sounds delicious! Also last side note I think Hannah's cat Moishe could have his own series, he's adorable!
