Picture Books I've Read Recently (9/9/2017)

This week I found a few more cute picture books that I decided to read & compile for all of you!
I found a Dr. Seuss book that I had never heard of (which is crazy!), & a few that I have seen several times being checked out by patrons.

Scrambled Eggs Super by Dr. Seuss

I can't believe I've never heard of or seen this Dr. Seuss book before! It's about a boy named Peter T. Hooper who is trying to make the world's best scrambled eggs. That means he needs the eggs from all kinds of fun birds. In true Dr. Seuss style there is crazy pictures, rhyming names, & fun colors contrasted on black & white backgrounds.

Monsters Love Colors by Mike Austin

This book would be great for toddlers or preschoolers, maybe even kinders if they want to show off what they know. The monsters in this book love all kinds of colors. Then they discover that they can mix colors to get new colors. Eventually they get all the colors of the rainbow together.

A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee by Chris Van Dusen

This book would be great for older kids, 3rd grade +. Mr. Magee & his dog Dee decide to leave the city & go on a camping trip. But things don't go as planned when a bear comes into camp & it's all down hill from there. This book features rhyming words & fun colorful illustrations.

This author has more books featuring Mr. Magee if you're interested

Wiggle by Doreen Cronin

This book is one in a collection of similar stories, one of which I have read. It's a great book for toddlers & preschoolers to get them up & moving. You could easily come up with some actions to perform along with the story. This author is also famous for her books Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type.

These are the other books in this set

Daylight Starlight Wildlife by Wendell Minor

I saw this book in the picture book bin as I was closing last night & it was adorable! It's a little bit harder on the vocabulary & there are quite a few words per page. I would read this book to an older kid 3rd grade +. The story starts with a picture of day & night together asking the reader if they recognize any of the wildlife they see. Then they break down the daytime & nighttime creatures from the picture, sometimes with a whole page of just one (like the owl). Overall the story is simple & the pictures are beautiful. There is also a glossary of animals in the back of the book.

Stay tuned for more reviews coming soon!
