Picture Books I Read This Week (April 23rd-27th)

Clarence the Copy Cat by Patricia Lakin
Just look at that cover, he is adorable! The story is also funny which is a bonus.
Clarence's parents were the best mousers ever but he was not-he was peaceful. He went from place to place but no one wanted a cat that wouldn't catch mice. Until one day he stopped outside the library. Clarence liked to sit on top of the copier & watch people with their books. One day there is a mouse in the library Mr. Spanner the Librarian wants Clarence to catch it but of course he doesn't. Clarence decides he has to cover up every place the mouse could hide but Mr. Spanner deson't want that. That day the mouse comes back, Clarence jumps on the copier making a scary copy of himself,  & it scares the mouse away. Then Clarence gets to stay in the library.

The Haunted Hamburger by David LaRochelle
This story was a little weird...kinda funny but mostly just strange...
Two ghost children don't want to go to bed so their dad says he'll read them a scary story. He reads them The Scary Baby, The Haunted Hamburger, & The Big Bad Granny.

The Best Pet Ever by Victoria Roberts
The little girl wants a pet so she tries out a rock, a glove, & a candy wrapper. Surprisingly none of them are good pets. Then she finds a balloon & names it Bruce. But one day Bruce pops! So her mom buys her an adorable kitten named Timmy & she is so happy!

Swirl by Swirl by Joyce Sidman
This book shows different swirl shapes found in nature. The pictures are good & it includes all the names on the animals etc. Examples include Bull Snake, Nautilus, Lady Fern, Spider Web, & a Tidal Whirlpool.

Sick Simon by Dan Krall
This book was disgusting but it does teach a lesson.
It's Monday & Simon has a cold but he doesn't care-he's gonna make the best of it. Simon barfs on the bus the whole way to school then sneezes on everyone in math class. On Tuesday he does show & tell then tries to share his snacks with his friends. On Wednesday they go to the zoo on a field trip. As the week goes on you can tell everyone around him is getting sick. By Friday no one is left because they are all sick. Simon meets his germs & learns that they get everywhere. The germs tell him all the ways they get spread like not washing your hands, not covering your mouth, & sneezing. Simon starts trying not to spread them worse & rests all weekend. By Monday he is all better...but someone else comes to school sick!

Pet Shop Lullaby by Mary Ann Fraser
This book was my favorite this week. It's so cute! Perfect for storytime & there is animal noises.
A cute little hamster can't go to sleep so the other animals in the pet shop try to help him. They give him a bath (the best page), brush his teeth, sing him a lullaby, read him a story, then tuck him in.
