So yesterday was the class in Phoenix on creating book trailers. It was really fun! The instructor was a high school librarian from Texas named Naomi Bates & she was great. Knew all her stuff very well, told us everything we needed to know, was a reader, & love libraries as much as we all do!
This is a link to her website: http://www.nisdtx.org/Page/50241
She is also very active on twitter & facebook & has a blog (all the info is on the website)
So we learned how to use Animoto & Kizoa to create some great trailers with lots of pictures & effects.
Here are some that we worked on yesterday:
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

A Court of Thorns &Roses

I'm currently in the process of making 2 more videos that should be ready by the end of this week so stay tuned!

Week 14
Wow where did all that time go! So a lot has happened since week 3, let's recap...
I moved into a new place & it's pretty sweet, a definite upgrade from my previous place
It's starting to get cold here which is exciting & terrifying at the same time...let's just say I'm no snow bunny!
Wednesday I'm on my way to phoenix for a class on making book trailers, that will be super fun to escape & go to the big city
I came in 1st place for the adults in the summer reading program (I don't get counted against everyone else)
I saw National Lampoon's Vacation & it was HILARIOUS!
Ate at a new restaurant in PTLS called Long Wong's Two Hippies. It's a really funky burger & pizza place. I'll try & snap some pictures next time I'm there.
Celebrated my birthday with my family! (the big 24...)
Other than that reading a lot, need to clean more but I can do that later...will have a report on the class Thursday, see you all on the flip side!

Week 3
Week three was a little slower than week 2 but still super fast, I can't believe it's almost July! So here is a recap of week 3...
Went out to lunch for pizza with my coworkers, there is a really good place across the street called R & R Pizza Express. It's funny because we had one in Benson that I never really went to now I'm hooked, especially on the amazing breadsticks!
I catalogged almost 200 items!
I organized my office a little more
I started listening to audiobooks to log more points for the Summer Reading Program
I was "in charge" for the first time since 2 of my coworkers were sick
I finished 2 books & started a third
I still love listening to Harry Potter on tape in the car on the way to work
I saw a HUGE dead elk that someone had hit in the road...scary!
I saw Jurassic World which was AMAZING, LOVED IT! I totally want to see it again & I'm definitely going to get it on DVD & probably the other ones because I had the first 2 on VHS
I got my 2nd Uppercase Box & LOVED it! Can't wait to read that book
I also started apartment hunting which hasn't gone very well but I just want to know where all the single hard working people in my town live because there's no way like me, they qualify for the income controlled apartments or can afford the expensive condos, etc.
I go back to work tomorrow to start week 4 & I'm hoping to finish up my book reviews & get them posted soon, stay tuned...

Week 2
The second week FLEW BY! So let's recap...
Things I learned
How to do ILL's
Divergent is a good movie
I want to have my own popcorn machine
Panda Express is awesome & I'm so glad there is one within 10 miles of me
Nature Box snacks are actually pretty good
You can convert a pdf to a word document
I'm getting pretty good at jackets but my taping skills need some work
Skype interviews are almost the same as real ones
On Saturday the library was supposed to show it's "Movie of the Month" which was Divergent but no one showed so we had to cancel but...I did get to use the popcorn machine & it was fun, not so fun to clean but I totally want one now haha. I also took on the task of doing the movie from now on due to a schedule change.
I also got to serve on the interview panel for the library & helped chose a new part time person that we will be hiring soon. This means that the library will be open on Monday's starting in July.
Oh & the highlight of the week was cataloging my 110th item!
We also got a large donation on Saturday some of which we kept & some of it went to the local school so they will be very happy.
I was able to get my hands on some Harry Potter books on tape & I am loving them since my CD player in the car is broken! I'm almost done with book 1 & I am brought to tears frequently remembering all the fun & exciting things that happened early on, & all those that have been lost in the journey.
I saw the sheep again, no picture this time because I was on the phone but I did see a little baby sheep that was one of the cutest things I've ever seen. I also saw an amazing feat performed by said baby sheep. While crossing the road & following what I assumed to be his/her mother up a hill the poor baby slipped & for a second I was worried he/she wouldn't make it & was going to fall onto the road but luckily he/she shimmied up the hill & made it back to mom safely! Very proud moment of me yelling you can do it! in my car.
More next week & a book review (maybe 2 if I can finish the one I started today)...

Week 1
I survived my first week! I feel very accomplished coming from the same job for 3 years to learning a new one in one week & being pretty good at it. Let's recap...
Things I learned:
How to work SIRSI ( for my non library readers that's what holds all the library info & is used to check things in & out, etc)
How to catalog items from existing records in the county or elsewhere (original cataloging will be next)
How the library is organized (and not)
Setting off the alarm is not a good thing
I love having my own office
I need to learn the dinosaur song
Kids love reading to dogs
The library can't be closed until 6 p.m.
I value sleep more than ever
Friendships can be made anywhere with people you might not expect
Clearing the patron tracker takes skill (by skill I mean holding your hand just right, sticking out your tongue, & possibly standing on one foot)
I love books now more than ever
Harry Potter is still an institution in the world of reading & will never die
Finally...
I need to read more because I will never possibly get through all the awesome books I'm cataloging!
Overall I really like my new job. Covering lunches up at the desk & helping to open is interesting. It's a much different environment from the school but that is a good thing at this point. The drive is not as bad as I thought it would be but I am definitely moving into town before the winter hits.
I did see some wildlife, sheep crossing the road on my way to work one day. They were pretty cool but did not want to get out of the way. I also saw a wolf which was scary but really cool because it was coming out of the woods right by the road. That's what I get for living in the mountains.
I did get a chance to hang out with my new co workers & see Pitch Perfect 2 which was great. It was very funny, loved the songs & choreography, & it was a great addition to the first one.
More about my 2nd week & a book review to come...stay tuned!

Welcome!
I recently left my job as a school Librarian of over 1000 students to become a Library Technical Assistant AKA "Book Doctor" 400 miles away from home! Making the journey up the the mountains was interesting but fun. I start the new job in a few days & I'm really excited to be apart of a new library team & a small but seemingly great community.
I had another blog in the past detailing the workings of my previous library but I wasn't very successful & I failed to post often. It is one of my goals to track what happens at my new library for enjoyment & hopefully to help someone else along the way. So the ultimate goal is to post pictures, stories, book reviews, & much more about my new life & my new library! I'll try & create a schedule to post on that way it gives me a way to see if I'm succeeding or failing to keep this going. Stay tuned for more to come...
